NEWS FROM OCTOBER 2025
The October Chaplaincy lunch (to belatedly celebrate Harvest) was held at the Cricket Club again on a warm and sunny afternoon. Such a lovely atmosphere under the trees. Almost record numbers of us enjoyed some excellent paellas with nibbles, dips and salad, followed by platters of fruit. Much enjoyed by all. Our thanks to Dan Osterbury for all his help.

90th Birthday Celebrations ! The Perrins were with us in October with Audrey celebrating her birthday one week and the following week Lawrence reaching his milestone 90th birthday. It was a joy to wish them happy birthday and many more to come ! A wonderful iced fruit cake together with cava was provided for us all to enjoy.

Mission Giving for 2024. Last year the Chaplaincy Council agreed that part of our designated mission giving for that year should go to the Alzheimers Society on the island. Finally in October there was an opportunity for Paul to present our donation from Santa Margarita – see photo

‘Not Just a Day in Paraguay’. In July 2022 at St. George’s Chapel on the Isla del Rey there was a wedding blessing between Pandora and David and the baptism of their son Oriade. In August this year they returned to the chapel of St. George for the baptism of their second son, Amatayo (see the September Newsletter and photo below). Pandora has now published a fascinating photo book about the experience of finding her biological family in Paraguay – see https://www.notjustadayinparaguay.com

Solar Panels. At last the church has had the solar panels plus the control unit and battery installed. We are awaiting the co-ordination with Endesa/Energia to bring the power online ! The cost of this has been met by an anonymous donation for which we offer grateful thanks.

Cala’n Bosc – Monthly Services in the Outdoor Chapel. Google Maps says it is only 57km from Es Castell to Cala’n Bosc less than an hour to drive. Sadly our fellowship in Es Castell rarely meets with those who worship once a month in Cala’n Bosc. It was encouraging therefore when a worshipper from that end of the island gave some lovely positive feedback when reading the last issue of this Newsletter. We would encourage them to sign up to receive regularly copies to keep up to date on church happenings. We also hope that they might consent to have a photo or two of themselves in a future issue so we can get to know each other !!
Clergy Gathering – Girona. At the end of October, Paul spent a few days in Girona with other clergy members from the Diocese. More details next month.
Roqueta. Monthly articles from Roqueta, Menorca’s English language magazine, are posted on the church web site every month. You can find a reflection upon “What might have been” at

GENERAL
Afternoon worship at Cala’n Bosc. The monthly services of Holy Communion at Cala’n Bosc have been moved to the penultimate Sunday of each month for the rest of 2025. The next service will be on Sunday 23 November. Those in the Ciutadella area can join us at 17.00
Mission Giving for 2025. The Church Council has agreed that the main beneficiaries of our giving this year will be support for Peruvian students and also food vouchers to the needy on the island (via the Red Cross).
Coffee after Sunday services. Thank you to the volunteers who have joined the group serving refreshments after the service. Further volunteers are welcome as we are try to broaden the group. Talk to Paul. The small donations of 1.50€ per cup of coffee each week are used to support a number of different aspects of chaplaincy life from aiding the needy with food, to the floral decorations in the church.
If anyone is willing to host a future social event – coffee morning, afternoon tea, or simple tapas that would be much appreciated. Please let Carole know.
ADDENDUM
PERU PROJECT – THANKS
October 2025
Santa Margarita continues to support our Anglican brethren in the Diocese of Peru both in prayer and practically.
Your Archdeaconry Synod Reps are pleased to say that we have received a letter from the Dean of Gibraltar, The Very Revd. Ian Tarrant. This gives background information regarding one aspect of this help which we gladly reproduce here.
'Dear Synod representatives,
You will remember that at this year's Synod we held a virtual collection for a sustainability project in Peru. The aim is to construct five apartments above a church hall in Lima, which can be let out to give an income stream for the Diocese of Peru. Some donations came in anonymously, and some via circuitous routes, so we have not been able to thank people or chaplaincies individually - but please accept the grateful thanks sent through from Peru!'.
The letter goes on to tell us 'This project has been moving forward with an initial grant from the Cathedral in Gibraltar, and three photos are attached. The money from our collection will be sent very soon, with confidence that the funds are being well used. The diocesan bishop and the new assistant bishop are supervising progress, and we hope to have a full report at our Synod in January.'
We can add that annually a 'silent' collection is taken at our Archdeaconry Synod for the Anglican Diocese in Peru and this year we were asked for it to be earmarked for the above specific project, hence the letter now received.
We are looking forward to attending Archdeaconry Synod in January and hopefully having more news to share then.
