NEWS FROM DECEMBER 2025
The Christmas lunch in December was a lovely festive affair held at the Sala Multifunctional in Es Castell. Good to see a number of Santa Margarita members who don’t always manage to get to our other lunches. Bryce Self had provided a superb Christmas feast with a variety of choices. Excellent waiter service from her children ! Many thanks Bryce and family ! Do note the Chaplain’s red hat which apparently had flashing lights.

Services of Lessons and Carols. On Saturday 13 December the service was held in Cuitadella at the Carmelite Chapel. It was a slightly smaller crowd than usual but good to see everyone. The lady in the white jacket by the cross (see photo below) comes every year and is now 90!
Then on Sunday 21 December at 18.00 the Service of Lessons and Carols was held in the church at Santa Margarita. It was followed by mince pies and mulled wine !

Christingles ! On Christmas Eve at 18.00 the Family Service with Christingles was held in church. Always a favourite and clearly enjoyed by this family!
A service for the New Year was held at Santa Margarita on 31 December.

Food gift vouchers. As part of our Mission Giving, 30 food vouchers were donated to the Red Cross for distribution to those in need. The Rev. Paul decided it was “dress down day” !!

Replacement Church doors. The delivery of materials is awaited and the new doors should be fitted in January.
Solar Panels. These are up and working. Energia has modified our contract to recognise their existence and credit us for what we contribute to the grid.
JANUARY AND FUTURE EVENTS 2026
January Chaplaincy Lunch. January is always quiet but we hope that some of us can get together for lunch on Thursday 22 January , possibly at Opera on the port or the Windmill in Es Mercadal. More details shortly.
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. A prayer service to mark the start of the week for Christian Unity will be held with our Roman Catholic friends on Saturday 24 January at 17.00.
Holidays and Celebrations in January.
· Thursday 1 January – National holiday in Spain
· Monday 5 January – Los Reyes (the Kings) will arrive to bring presents for the children. Whilst Mahon and Cuitadella hold big celebrations, all the towns have their own events and are thoroughly enjoyable and well worth visiting ! In Mahon (the most impressive of the events!), Es Castell and Fornells, the Kings arrive by boat presumably having left the camels in Barcelona !!
· Tuesday 6 January is Epiphany and a national Holiday. The presents will be distributed on the morning of the 6th.
· Saturday 17 – Sant Antoni is celebrated in most of the towns including Alaior, Es Castell, Es Mercadal, Es Migjorn Gran, Ferreries, Mahon, and Sant Lluis. (In Es Mercadal on the previous evening (16th) there is always a fun evening in the square with braziers set up to roast your sausages. Food and a pomada provided for about 2€ each !)
Chaplaincy Council. The next meeting of the council will be on Tuesday 20 January at 10.30am although the date may have to be rescheduled. Please remember the discussions in your prayers.
GENERAL
Members of the Chaplaincy Council are David Green and Kathy Rossetti (Church Wardens) and Liz Astley, Carole Brayford, Colin Guanaria, Suzanne Hodges (treasurer), Heike Pieper, and Margaret and Trevor (the two Archdeaconry Synod representatives).
Roqueta. The Rev. Paul’s articles from Roqueta, Menorca’s English language magazine, are posted on the church web site. From the winter edition you can find a reflection upon “Now is the Winter of our Great Content”.
Mission Giving for 2026. The Church Council has yet to agree the main beneficiaries of our giving for this current year. More details will be available in due course.
Coffee after Sunday services. Thank you to the volunteers who have joined the group serving refreshments after the service. Further volunteers are welcome. The small donations of 1.50€ per cup of coffee each week are used to support a number of different aspects of chaplaincy life from aiding the needy with food, to the floral decorations in the church
If anyone is willing to host a future social event – coffee morning, afternoon tea, or simple tapas that would be much appreciated. Please let Carole know.
