NEWS FROM NOVEMBER 2025
The November Advent lunch was held at Trattoria Vianello in Mahon. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with some good company at a very pleasant venue.

Remembrance Sunday. As usual Remembrance was celebrated in church on Sunday 9 November. A beautiful display for as always a very poignant service.
And on Tuesday 11 November (Armistice Day) there was a service of Prayers for Remembrance in the church at 11am

American Thanksgiving ! We all have much to be thankful for in our lives and for which we thank God. But to all those who celebrated American Thanksgiving on Thursday 27 November, especially Kate and also the family of Bryce Self, we send special greetings and hope you enjoyed your turkey or the vegetarian equivalent!
Sunday 30 November - the First Sunday of Advent. The Rev. Paul was away in Mallorca where he was licensing the Rev. Sara Davies as chaplain of Saint Andrew’s Puerto Pollença. The Rev. Bruce Kinsey who was visiting from the UK kindly stepped in to lead our service for the First Sunday in Advent to cover the Rev. Paul’s absence in Mallorca. We were delighted that Bruce was able to join us at our lunch on Friday 28 November so we could get to know him a little better.

Replacement Church doors. The Chaplaincy Council are proposing to replace the old wooden front doors and side panels as well as the semi-circular panel above the doors with larger PVC doors. The Diocese will contribute 3000€ towards this project which will cost almost 6000€ in total. A reader of this Newsletter (who wishes to remain anonymous) has generously contributed 3000€ to match the Diocesan grant for which we are very grateful. The woodworm will be less happy!
Solar Panels. The church finally had the solar panels fitted in November plus the control unit and battery installed but we continue to await the co-ordination with Endesa/Energia to bring the power online ! The cost of this has been met by an anonymous donation for which we offer grateful thanks.
Cala’n Bosc – Monthly Services in the Outdoor Chapel. We hope that we will shortly be able to include an up to date photo of some of our fellow worshippers from Cala’n Bosc. In the meantime here is a photo of some of them meeting at the outdoor chapel earlier this year!

Father Alberto, of the Catholic church, El Roser in Es Castell, retired this month. He has been a great friend of all of us at Santa Margarita over the years, and we wish him a long and very restful retirement. His replacement is Father Miquel Angel, to whom we extend a welcome.
Roqueta. The Rev. Paul’s articles from Roqueta, Menorca’s English language magazine, are posted on the church web site. From the winter edition you can find a reflection upon “Now is the Winter of our Great Content”.

GENERAL
Mission Giving for 2025. The Church Council has agreed that the main beneficiaries of our giving this year will be support for Peruvian students and also food vouchers to the needy on the island (via the Red Cross).
Coffee after Sunday services. Thank you to the volunteers who have joined the group serving refreshments after the service. Further volunteers are welcome. The small donations of 1.50€ per cup of coffee each week are used to support a number of different aspects of chaplaincy life from aiding the needy with food, to the floral decorations in the church.
If anyone is willing to host a future social event – coffee morning, afternoon tea, or simple tapas that would be much appreciated. Please let Carole know.
