NEWS FROM MARCH 2026

St. David’s Day – 1st March.  The month began on St. David’s Day – see the flag!  And whilst you ask, there is still no news on the new doors !  Patience, patience !

Saturday 6 March – World Day of Prayer.  A service was held in church on Friday evening 5 March at 7pm -  “Rest for the Weary” which was appreciated by all those who attended. The 2026 World Day of Prayer by Gift Amarachi Ottah used materials from Nigeria to bring us a powerful invitation drawn from Matthew 11:28-30. At a time when people worldwide are carrying heavy burdens, our Nigerian sisters offered profound insights into finding rest in God.

In the Rev. Paul’s  absence between 6 and 10 March we were glad to welcome the Rev. Iain Bendrey to provide cover.  He also enjoyed  some Santa Margarita hospitality !

The Annual Church Meeting was held on Sunday 22 March 2026 at 12.30pm after the service with, in addition, a number of people also joining on Zoom. The Chaplain looks in relaxed mode – or is that just perplexed !

Our thanks to Margaret for making all the arrangements and putting together and distributing all the papers.

Church Wardens and Chaplaincy Council.  For the coming year the following have been elected.

·       Kathy Rossetti and Trevor Jones – Church Wardens.

·       Margaret and Trevor Jones – Archdeaconry Synod Delegates

·

Liz Astley, Carole Brayford, and Suzanne Hodges - Chaplaincy Council, joining Heike Pieper (in the 2nd of her 3 year term)

March Chaplaincy lunch on Friday 27th was held at Camacho’s in Es Castell.  This is a venue we haven’t used in recent times but which proved to be an excellent choice.  Good food and convivial company. Much enjoyed.

Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday was celebrated as usual in church with the distribution of palm crosses.

Via Crucis.  On 31 March the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) normally takes place processing through the streets of Es Castell. More details next month.

APRIL 2026

The Rev. Paul – Paul should have been away on Wednesday 1 April at the Chrism Mass at St. George’s in  Madrid, which is where the oils are blessed and where clergy renew their ordination vows.  Sadly, Graham Byfield, a long term resident of the island, well known in art and cricketing circles and well beyond, died earlier in the week and Paul cancelled his trip to officiate at the service of cremation.
